Edward Elgar's breakout composition, Variations on an Original Theme "Enigma", cemented his stature as a serious composer of late English Romanticism. In it, Elgar portrays his closest friends and loved ones through each variation of the "original theme" representing himself—something we might liken to "tagging" your friends on social media today! With this performance, the Louisville Civic Orchestra celebrates the bonds of friendship and the power of music to strengthen communities. In that vein, we are strengthening our friendship with one of Louisville's own talented performers, University of Louisville Assistant Professor of Tuba Clinton McCanless, who joins the LCO to perform the Tuba Concerto by Ralph Vaughan Williams. Bring your own community this Easter weekend and enjoy our friendly offering of charming and delightful sounds.
