Event Details

Join the brave analysts of the BDD as they work to secure our digital future against enemies who would compromise data to do evil.  This workshop will introduce students to careers in Cyber Security through hands-on exercises in ethics, encryption, password cracking, phishing, web app vulnerabilites, social engineering, malware analysis and more.  At the end of the two day workshop, it is our genuine hope that many attendees (heck, all of them!) will be inspired to pursue careers in Cyber Security.
NOTE: A LEGAL GUARDIAN WILL BE REQUIRED TO READ AND SIGN A LETTER OF AUTHORIZATION PRIOR TO ATTENDANCE, NO EXCEPTIONS!  ATTENDEES WILL LIKEWISE COMPLETE A 'CONTRACT' STATING THEIR COMMITMENT TO DO NO EVIL DURING THE WORKSHOP.
FAQs
Isn't it dangerous to teach teens computer hacking?
We feel that teens are very resourceful and everything we cover is readily available online with very little searching.  It's our philosophy that learning these skills in a structured environment with a STRONG DOSE OF ETHICS and real world examples of how things can go very wrong when these skills are misused can help students stay on the 'right side of the keyboard' so to speak.
What will attendees need to bring?
A laptop, curiosity and a desire to learn.  Snacks are welcome, and lunch will be provided both days.
Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?
There is not a definite age limit, however the items we cover will require a fairly deep level of comfort on a computer, and students should have some exposure to command line, scripting, networking, etc.  We feel that ages 14-18 would most benefit from these workshops.  Attendees must remain at iHub for the entire training unless a guardian picks them up.  Parents are welcome to stay with their students for any or all of the training, space allowing.
What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event?
There is ample on street parking and a small lot behind iHub, students can be dropped off right at the door as well on Floyd street.  There are three TARC stops within a block of iHub as well.
How can I contact the organizer with any questions?
Send any inquiries to bdd.ky@protonmail.com, we'll get back to you within one business day.
