City on Science: Discussing the Results of Health Research in Louisville
For many years, the University of Louisville has researched health and has learned a lot about how air pollution, smoking and vaping, and nutrition impact health in our community. This research has been shared at scientific conferences and published in scientific journals, but not enough of this new knowledge has made its way back to the community – The Christina Lee Brown Envirome Institute is setting out to change that.

Like a book club.
At this monthly, free, and open to the public gathering, participants will discuss articles written by researchers at UofL and published in scientific journals.
The group will go straight to the source to learn directly from the scientists who did the research instead of depending on the mainstream media pick up and to interpret scientific findings
The group will explore research that is relevant to Louisville and make sense of the science that underlies the policies and decisions that affect Louisvillian’s health.
There will be tasty refreshments and an opportunity to provide feedback and contribute to new science about citizen participation in research.

A fun challenge.
Each month, you'll read a new scientific journal article. The article may include terms, graphs, or concepts that you may not be familiar with. But that's the point, we're all learning together!
City on Science is a safe, judgement-free space where people from any part of Louisville and the surrounding area can ask questions and learn about new terms, methods, and concepts.
Each month, a different person from the group will lead a discussion on a published paper. Don't expect a lecture delivered by a researcher, but a volunteer-led conversation with plenty of time to discuss why the research was necessary, how it was conducted, and what it may mean for our city and our health.

This is special.
We are the only community in America attempting this kind of direct-to-the-people discussion about academic research. We know Louisville is the community that will take up a challenge.
