Description

The Capital City Museum exists to collect, preserve, and interpret material related to the history of Frankfort, Kentucky. The Capital City Museum is located in two, adjacent buildings in downtown Frankfort, Kentucky. The former Gayle Drug Store houses the main exhibit gallery on its first floor with offices, library, and some exhibit space on the second floor. Interconnected next door is what remains of the 1850 Capital Hotel, once an imposing, neoclassical stone structure - much reduced by a major fire in 1917. The former hotel rooms and hallways contain restrooms, a workshop, and additional exhibit and office space. Mr. and Mrs. Rodney Ratliff donated these buildings to the City of Frankfort for use as a local history museum.
