We are a non-profit for Kentucky’s families that was founded in 2014 with the idea that everyone deserves access to quality oral health care. According to a report by the U.S. Surgeon General, 51 million school hours and 164 million work hours are lost each year due to dental-related illness. Community Dental of Kentucky fills the gap for affordable dental care among infants, children, teens, adults, and seniors, and the special needs population, all of whom have no other access to dental care. Tooth decay (dental caries) affects children in the U.S. more than any other chronic infectious disease. According to the National Institute for Health, “42% of children 2 to 11 have had dental caries in their primary teeth.” The same report, written by the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research states that 51.17% of children ages 6 to 11 have caries in their primary teeth. The American Dental Association established National Children’s Dental Health Month in 1981, to focus attention on the importance of treating children and teaching them good dental health practices at an early age.
