Why the name Earthshine? Well, it has to do with the fact that we are moonlighters, and this business venture is something we do in our spare time. Jenny is a high school teacher and Jon is a maintenance man in the same school district. We started Earthshine Tie Dye in 2009, as a way to feed our creative desires and to supplement our income. We started out doing local art festivals and have learned in those six years that we are happiest staying at home and doing internet sales. The birth of our daughter, Ilena, in 2012 made going to weekend festivals even harder. She is now taking an interest in tie dye and helps us pick color combinations and likes to put the rubber bands on our folded shirts.
According to moonconnection.com, Earthshine is, "a soft, faint glow on the shadowed part of the moon caused by the reflection of sunlight from the Earth.” Specifically, Earthshine happens when the light from the sun is reflected from the Earth's surface, to the moon, and then back to our eyes'. In our work, we try to emulate nature's color combinations. Much like earthshine, we want nature's beauty to reflect in your eyes when you see our art.
Besides making tie dye in our spare time, we also have a small herd of hair sheep, three dogs, three rescue cats and a rescue bunny! We also raise a very large organic vegetable garden.
Our style and knowledge has evolved over the years, and now we are using the highest quality shirts, dye and techniques. Your Earthshine Tie Dye
