Join us for a Dimensions of Faith lecture featuring Jonathan Wilson-Hartgrove, the celebrated spiritual writer, noted speaker and co-founder of Rutba House.

In his recent book, "Reconstructing the Gospel Finding Freedom from Slaveholder Religion" examines racial blindness in white Americans and his own journey of gaining sight. “Chattel slavery is not ancient history in America. Sometimes, it’s close enough to touch. We all carry in our bodies stories that haven’t been told.” Wilson-Hartgrove frequently returns to the original landscape of the Bible to reveal the subversive origins of Christianity as he draws parallels between the plight of early Christians and modern day injustices. Bringing together thoughts on the rural working-class, white privilege, and the black-led freedom movement, Wilson-Hartgrove’s book is a must-read for Christians interested in how race-infused politics and distorted religion undermine the American democratic dream.
In 2003, Jonathan and his wife Leah founded the Rutba House, a house of hospitality where the formerly homeless share community with the formerly housed. Jonathan directs the School for Conversion, a popular education center that works to make “surprising friendships possible.” He is also an Associate Minister at the historically black St. Johns Missionary Baptist Church.
Jonathan is a co-complier of the celebrated Common Prayer: A Liturgy for Ordinary Radicals, and the author of several books on Christian spirituality, including Reconstructing the Gospel, Strangers at My Door, The Awakening of Hope, The Wisdom of Stability, and The New Monasticism. He is also co-author, with Reverend Dr. William Barber II, of The Third Reconstruction: Moral Mondays, Fusion Politics, and the Rise of a New Justice Movement.
